Natural Pain Relief For Arthritis - Massage Therapy

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Unfortunately there’s no cure for arthritis and the arthritic changes that arthritis brings to your joints, but you can relieve the pain that accompanies this medical condition.

Two treatments which are easy and are worth trying are massage therapy, and also massage with essential oils.

Massage Therapy: Gentle Massage Can Relieve Pain

When you massage a painful arthritic joint, you help the blood circulation to the joint, and this aids healing. Another benefit is that the muscles relax, and this relieves pain too, because tight muscles around the joint make it even more painful.

Although you can massage painful joints yourself, for best results visit a massage therapist, because the therapist will know the best way to massage your hands, or whichever joints are affected. Ask to be shown some easy massage techniques that you can perform at home.

Massage therapy can’t reverse arthritis, but many people find that they can keep arthritis at bay with massage therapy.

Essential Oils For Arthritis Pain Relief

Massage therapy can help even more if you massage your joints with essential oils. Essential oils are fragrant oils which are refined from plants, roots, and trees. Pain relieving essential oils for arthritis treatment include ginger, lavandin, and eucalyptus.

For an arthritis joint massage, very small quantities of pure essential oils (about one drop per teaspoon) are added to a carrier oil like apricot or almond oil. You can make up your own massage oil from essential oils and a carrier oil, and can use it to massage painful joints twice a day.

Not only do the essential oils smell wonderful, but they’re also very relaxing.

As with massage therapy, it’s best to get advice and a couple of treatments from a professional aromatherapist at the beginning, and then you can continue the treatment with essential oils at home.

Although massage therapy and essential oils massage therapy are not a cure for arthritis, they do relieve the pain. These treatments can also help you to regain and maintain movement in your joints, so that you live your life.

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

There is no question that having a massage makes you feel great. Massage can relieve stress, help you recover from physical activity or injury and even reduce stress and anxiety, but a question that many women ask is:
Can it help you to achieve your weight loss goals?
Research has shown that massage can have a positive effect on your muscle-building capabilities and fitness levels, which in turn increases your capacity to control or lose weight.
Healthy strong muscles burn calories and make it easier for you to participate in all sorts of sports and activities that can help you burn extra calories and improve your overall fitness and wellbeing.
Massage has the following benefits that can directly influence your ability to control or loose weight:
1. Massage has been shown to improve circulation therefore improving the supply of nutrition to the muscles. Massage maximizes the supply of these nutrients and oxygen through an increase in blood flow, which helps the muscles to grow and burn more calories as a result.
2.Massage improves your muscles’ flexibility which can help reduce the danger of experiencing injuries during exercise which can limit activity, exercise and weight loss progress.
3.Massage helps rid the muscles of waste products such as lactic acid build up in muscles during and after exercise.
If you haven’t had a massage lately, what are you waiting for?
Find a trained massage therapist and make yourself a booking.

Massage Therapy In Your Own Home: Environment, Dress, And Massage MediumEnvironment

Friday, August 17th, 2007

You will need to make sure that there is enough space in your home for your therapist to set up the massage couch and be able to walk around it.

To make sure that your experience is as relaxing as possible, please make sure that you will not be disturbed during your massage.

Your Massage Therapist will recommend that you switch off your television or radio during your massage so that she can completely focus on your treatment and you can completely focus on your relaxation.

Music may be played during your massage as this can help to aid relaxation. Your Massage Therapist will be happy for you to listen to the music of your choice if there is a particular piece of music that you find relaxing. Alternatively, you can choose from a selection of music which your Massage Therapist will have on CD. Choices include; classical , trip hop or new age music.

Please let your Massage Therapist know in advance if she will need to bring a portable CD player.

Dress

If you are having a full body massage, you will need to prepare for your massage by removing all clothing, apart from underwear on the lower body. You will need to wear a bath robe/dressing gown. (Your Massage Therapist will provide a gown, but you may wear your own if you wish).

If you are having a back, neck and shoulder massage, you will need to be undressed from the waist upwards.

It is easier and more comfortable for your massage to be carried out if you are not wearing a bra as this allows easy access to the back and shoulders. If you feel uncomfortable with this, please discuss this with your Massage Therapist.

Your massage will be delivered whilst you lie on the massage couch. Your body will be covered with towels. Your Massage Therapist will systematically uncover each part of the body to be massaged and replace the towels before moving on to the next part of the body.

Massage Medium

Your massage will be delivered using sweet almond oil. This oil is suitable for all skin types. It protects, nourishes and moisturises the skin, without making it too greasy. However, if you have a nut allergy, please advise your Massage Therapist who may be able to arrange for your massage to be delivered using an alternative medium.

Detoxification Massage

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Many are now realizing the important health benefits of massage therapy. Massage therapy is not just a session for relaxation; it can also aid your body in detoxifying. Detoxification massage helps your body get rid of dietary toxins.

Detoxification massage can greatly support any cleansing program you are in. The key behind detoxification massage is movement. Your massage therapist employs a series of rhythmic movements that stimulate your body. The massage movements include irregular and altering applications of pressure that gently compress and stretch your muscle tissues.

There are a number of detoxification massage therapies that you can undergo. One example is the lymphatic massage. The lymphatic system is one of the main elimination systems of the body that is integral in the detoxification process. It is responsible for the absorption of food nutrients and it also creates a waste disposal system in your body. With the series of strokes, detoxification massage aids your lymphatic system to clear dietary toxins and other unwanted substances. These body toxins are actually by-products of stress, dead cells, heavy metals and other excess debris from your cells.

You can also enhance your immune system, strengthen the muscles and toughen your connective tissue. The massage therapy session can remove blockages of the circulatory system. In addition, detoxification massage can also help prevent health conditions including fatigue, headaches, fibromyalgia, and other system dysfunctions that result from the presence of toxins in your body.

Some people also attest that massage therapy can help them in keeping their mental status at a normal level. If your muscles are relaxed, then your body is likely to detoxify much better.

If you have tried a Swedish massage, then it is pretty much the same thing as a detoxification massage. It normalizes oxygen levels and improves the function of your colon drainage and other organs involved in the detoxification process.

Massage Therapy: Your Biggest Role

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Some people may be intimidated by the idea of getting a massage. Perhaps it is out of shyness- the thought of someone massaging your body while being naked is not something everyone is readily open to.

It’s actually very simple really and is done all the time. You don’t need to worry about anything because as professionals, massage therapists do this for a living and they will not try to intentionally make you feel any discomfort. On the contrary, the role of massage therapists is to reduce stress and improve circulation in your body amongst other benefits.

All your job is, is to lay down and let the massage therapist do their job. Let them focus. It’s not wise to start a conversation with them during this process. Simply relax, and allow them to do their job. Feedback is another story though. Massage therapists are open to hearing any feedback you have for them either before or during the massage session.

Try to be helpful to them in ways that will allow them to optimally provide you the best massage experience possible. Try to allow yourself to enjoy the experience as well. Loosen up you body, and allow the massage therapist to work their magic.

Massage: Finding the Right Therapist for You

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Looking to get a massage? Here are some things you should look for when shopping around for a massage therapist. The most important thing is to make sure they have the appropriate credentials and designation to be a massage therapist.

For this look for certifying organizations such as the Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork designation which is awarded by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

Beyond that it’s important to also make sure that you are aware of the education requirements that massage therapists need to possess to recertify themselves.

Once you’ve covered those bases, it may be a good idea to meet with a potential massage therapist first to see if you’d be comfortable with this person who will be massaging your body.

If you’ve had lots of massages done in the past you will know what works for you, what doesn’t work, and what you like. Be sure to go over the key areas with your massage therapist to see if they are adaptable to your requirements. Massages in this regard are like haircuts in that everyone will have different prerequisites and preferences.

By building rapport and trust with your massage therapist, you will have someone to turn to anytime you need a massage- which is increasingly becoming in vogue as far as the health conscious are concerned.

Swedish Massage - Is it the Right One for You?

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

The Swedish massage is one of many different types of massages that are available to you. This massage is actually one of the most common as it provides a wide range of benefits, is easy to do and easy to benefit from. More than likely, this is the type of massage you’ll get if you don’t ask for some other type of massage to be done. Yet, that doesn’t mean it is the right type of massage for your needs.

The goal of the Swedish massage is quite simple. It is done to increase the amount of oxygen that is flowing through your blood. In addition, it helps to release the toxins that are lurking in your muscles, causing you some of your discomfort. This is a great massage for a holistic benefit to your body as it can provide you with an overall sense of well being, too.

A Swedish massage is actually a technique that describes several different types of movements and techniques that are done with the goal of helping you to relax. To make this happen, the massage giver will apply pressure to your muscle groups that is enough pressure to push against the deeper muscles and bones of your body. The massage will be done in such a way as to work with the direction in which the blood is flowing back to your heart.

The Swedish massage is useful for a number of conditions including just an overall benefit to the body. You’ll also find it beneficial to those that are dealing with stress including physical stresses on the body and emotional stresses as well.

If you are experiencing these types of problems or are looking for a good massage overall, consider the Swedish massage. It may just be the right type of massage for your body’s needs.
